Strictly Come Dancing judges reveal their Christmas traditions
The judges of Strictly Come Dancing have revealed their Christmas traditions ahead of the show’s celebratory special.
Motsi Mabuse admitted she’s starting to get festive in September, while Shirley revealed she’ll start organizing presents in October.
Craig Revel Horwood said it’s December 1 when he starts preparations, while Anton Du Beke begins to look forward to the festive season after Bonfire Night.

Shirley shared what this year’s celebrations will be like: “For dinner it will be my mom, myself, Danny [Taylor] and my dog Charlie – we’ve always made room for my brother.
“After dinner, we’ll have a drink and some games, but if my son were here, we’d normally be singing a song.”
Craig said he will spend the big day ‘by the sea at Southampton because of his work in Panto at the Mayflower Theatre, as we only have Christmas Day off!’
While Motsi said: ‘This year the whole family is in South Africa at my parents’ house for Christmas, and we’re going to catch up!’

Anton is also taking part in a pantomime, saying he’ll “be home because it’s my only day off because I’m playing in Panto at the Richmond Theater Buttons.” So it’s going to be a wonderful day with the kids and Hannah [Summers] – I can not wait.’
The songs that get them on the dance floor during the holiday season vary from judge to judge, with Shirley admitting that ABBA’s Dancing Queen is one of her favorites.
Craig said, ‘My new single ‘It’s Christmas, Merry Christmas’. It’s also a great jive to dance around the Christmas tree.’
Motsi: ‘I like Christmas carols, but like the whole world, I think Mariah Carey is my favorite. Everything I want for Christmas is you.’

All the judges are looking forward to the return of the Christmas special, with Anton saying: ‘I LOVE the Christmas special – it’s great, the songs are great and the costumes are great. I’m a little disappointed judging because I’d love to dance in it because I love it so much.
‘And you can’t be voted out, that’s what I like best about it! I’m looking forward to judging and dressing up in it though, I don’t know what costume I’ll be in yet, but it’s going to be something fantastic. ‘

While Motsi said, “I’m so looking forward to the return of the Strictly Christmas special because I really love that part of after we know the winner, one last goodbye for next season.”
Craig said, ‘Yeah, I just love the whole festive sparkle it brings, it’s so upbeat and you can forget about all your troubles.’
Shirley said: ‘I think people love to sit down on Christmas Day with a glass of wine, after they’ve eaten too much Christmas pudding, and watch the magic that is Strict. They know this is the last piece of Strictly they’re going to get before it starts again next year.”

The pair will face off against former Bake Off host Mel Giedroyc, First Dates’ Fred Sirieix and The Repair Shop’s Jay Blades.

She added hilariously, “I’ve loved dancing for as long as I can remember. It even helped me keep warm in my early cold-water plain…’
Meanwhile, the birthday singer is “excited” about the opportunity, especially since she teams up with professional dancer Graziano Di Prima.
She said: ‘I’m excited to be part of the Strictly Christmas special. I love the show, and who would turn down a dance with Graziano?!’
