Cat lovers have issued words of warning after influencer Olivia Mathers was reunited with her Bengal cat more than two months after her mysterious disappearance.
The Gold Coast model broke down in tears in a video shared on Friday as she hugged her beloved feline named Haukie, who she believes was “stolen” by someone she knew.
But social media users have since weighed in on the drama and shared their tips to prevent your cat from going missing again.
Taking the comments on @influencer.updates.auIn the post, fans criticized the situation and encouraged Olivia to keep her cat inside.
‘Wow, I didn’t expect this reunion! I thought he had been missing for a long time or had been killed! I hope he never lets it out again,” wrote one user.
‘Can you really claim that your cat was stolen when you let it wander and it disappeared? “I’m glad they found him, but the whole situation could have easily been avoided if she had acted responsibly from the beginning,” another added.
‘This should be a lesson to all cat owners that your cat should never wander!’

Olivia believed she knew who was involved in Haukie’s disappearance, although there is no solid evidence, other than screenshots of text exchanges, to suggest that Haukie was “stolen.”
In a post shared to her Instagram account on Friday, Olivia said she couldn’t be more grateful for those who helped in the search for the feline.

Since then, social media users have weighed in on the drama and shared their advice in a bid to keep their cat from disappearing again. In the comments of @influencer.updates.au’s post, fans criticized the situation and encouraged Olivia to keep her cat inside her.
‘We got to work for the last three days, walking the streets, keeping an eye on the house, holding on to new hope. Tonight she followed our voices and ran back to me!!!!’
Olivia added: “Turns out the lady who saw her was our kind teacher (and the kindest soul you could imagine), a touching coincidence that made the reunion that much more surreal.”

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia at the time, Olivia said she simply wanted answers and for her “relative” to come home.

Olivia shared several photos of the four-year-old Bengal cat she has had on Instagram since moving house, revealing that she was “captured” on Saturday, April 27.
“It’s true that Haukie has been taken,” he wrote alongside two photographs of his pet.

Shortly after, Olivia revealed that she had “found” the people who stole her pet.
He said the alleged thieves, who claimed to have “found” the cat, have been changing their story.
“We have a timeline of events and substantial evidence that they did something with her,” he said.
Olivia shared several photos on Instagram of the four-year-old Bengal cat she has had since moving house.

“They deflect, reject information and are horribly inconsistent with their story in the face of any direct attempt to get answers.”
Olivia shared a text message exchange between a person who said Haukie was dropped off at a pound in Coombabah on the day he disappeared.
But when the model arrived at the kennel, the staff had no record that she had been dropped off.
‘Can you confirm what day she was dropped off and when she was dropped off?’ Olivia asked the person via text, before asking for confirmation that she had the correct pound.
The person responded confirming it was the right place, claiming her father dropped off the cat and a lady who worked there said staff would “look for a chip to contact the owner.”
In a later message, the person claimed that the cat never made it into the kennel and escaped from the car before his father dropped him off.
“I talked to my dad and he didn’t tell me, but when he went to get the cat out of the car, it ran away and got scared and didn’t tell me,” the person wrote.
Olivia said she thinks she knows who stole her cat or who is involved in her disappearance.
In her post, Olivia asked her followers and Queenslanders to keep an eye out for their beloved family pet.
“Please share it to keep the voice going while his disappearance is still fresh,” he pleaded in his caption.
He also said Queensland Police had been notified “but no action has yet been taken” and he now believes the cat was sold and taken to Brisbane.
Last Wednesday, Olivia said she is offering a reward for “any sufficient information” as well as Haukie’s return.
Purebred Bengal cats cost over $2,000 and are a popular breed known for their high intelligence, loyal personality, and thick, spotted coat.
In the comments of her post, several notable influencers and TV stars shared their anguish over the devastating news.
