The cartoon upside down! Stranger Things gets the go-ahead from Netflix for an animated spin-off as the cast returns for its fifth and final season
Stranger Things is one of the most popular series on Netflix, so it’s only natural that the streaming service plans to expand the series into a franchise.
Stars like Millie Bobby Brown, 19, and Finn Wolfhard, 20, who play teenagers in the Fantasy/Horror series will return later this year for its fifth and final season.
Millie has moved on to several other projects, including writing her first novel, and Finn has signed on to star in a Ghostbusters sequel.
Instead of a new live action series, Netflix has decided to continue with an animated program, Variety reported.

Details on the new show being developed by Eric Robles – known for his work on Random! Cartoons, Fanboy & Chum Chum and Glitch Techs are kept secret.
Show creators Matt and Ross Duffer said in a statement: “We’ve always dreamed of an animated ‘Stranger Things’ in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons we grew up on.”
“It was absolutely thrilling to see this dream become a reality.”
“We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with – the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues…”
Netflix announced a live-action Stranger Things sequel and show in July 2022, but no word on what that series will focus on or will be released.
The creators revealed that it wouldn’t focus on characters like Millie’s Eleven or Joe Keery’s Steve Harrington.
The show, Stranger Things: First Shadow, will premiere in London’s West End at the Phoenix Theater later this year.
The play’s synopsis describes the plot as “Hawkins, 1959: an ordinary town with regular concerns. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister doesn’t take his radio show seriously, and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get out of town.”

Stranger Things writer and co-executive producer Kate Trefry penned the script.
The play is directed by Tony winner Stephen Daldry, with BAFTA winner Justin Martin co-directing.
