Milk should never be left at the door, experts say

If you keep milk on the refrigerator door, you could put yourself and your family at risk, experts warn.

According to Lynsey Crombie, nicknamed the “Queen of Cleaning” in the United Kingdom, refrigerator staples should be stored on the bottom shelf, next to meat.

The 46-year-old appeared on British TV show This Morning to broadcast the revelation live.

He asked the hosts where they kept their milk, to which they replied “doors.”

But Lynsey explained that the door was known to be the hottest part of the refrigerator.

The popular author and cleaning expert said that milk should be placed on the bottom shelf, where the temperature is lowest.

He went on to explain that the top shelf is perfect for deli items like ham and cheese and that the doors should be reserved strictly for “open sauces.”

The presenters seemed surprised and the advice left viewers divided, before making its way to TikTok, where it went viral.

Some people criticized the idea that milk should be at the bottom of the refrigerator.

‘If you put it there, it has to go sideways and it drips. I will put my milk where it fits, thank you,” snapped a woman.

Another added: “I’m about 40, I’ve always had milk on the doorstep and it’s always been cold enough.”

“It doesn’t matter if you have a modern refrigerator,” a third person added. “Unless you bought your refrigerator for $20 or it’s 18 years old, I don’t think it matters much where you put it,” another agreed.

Others completely agreed.

‘Buy milk that does not leak or close it properly. “I put mine on the right shelf and I’ve never had a problem,” one man said.

“You’re right, meat goes there too and normally that shelf has a lip, in case that stuff leaks out, to prevent contamination,” another added.

Some people claimed that the segment revealed that daytime television must have “hit an all-time low.”

‘They are discussing how to stack a refrigerator. “I can’t wait for them to reorganize the sock drawers tomorrow,” the man scoffed.

Experts from Australian consumer group CHOICE have echoed Lynsey’s advice, saying milk spoils faster when it enters the door.

“Everyone keeps their milk in the door, but this is actually the hottest part of the refrigerator,” CHOICE revealed.

On the other hand, milk will last much longer if you store it on the bottom shelf, where it is cooler.

Milk is best stored at four degrees Celsius or lower.
