Ryan Shawcross suffered a sickening ankle injury in Stoke’s pre-season friendly against Leicester on Saturday.
During the first half of the pre-season fixture, the Stoke captain went to clear the ball on the byline under pressure from Leicester winger Marc Albrighton.
But as he went to kick the ball away with his right foot, his left leg slipped and got horribly caught in the turf and it has appeared he has broken his ankle.

The 31-year-old was screaming in immediate anguish and the devastation on his face was clear for all to see.
Immediately after the innocuous moment, he was surrounded by very concerned team-mates and opponents at the bet365 Stadium.
Shawcross was also seen to by the medical team immediately and after lengthy treatment, the defender was taken off on a stretcher on Saturday afternoon.
As he left the field, the centre-back received a standing ovation from all ends of the stadium.
Aaron Ramsey, formerly of Arsenal, broke his leg following a challenge from the Englishman in a Premier League fixture at the bet365 Stadium back in February 2010.
