Cyberpunk 2077 is doing what The Witcher 3 did.
Cyberpunk 2077 may have fallen flat on its face when it was originally released, but since then CD Projekt Red has been able to take a real 180-degree turn. As with The Witcher 3 before it, staying tuned and revising the role-playing game is once again noticeable in numbers.
Because like the studio behind Cyberpunk 2077 now via financial report announces has the RPG 2022 generates even more sales for CD PR than in the previous year. But what exactly is that?
Cyberpunk 2077 achieves the Witcher effect
At the end of 2020, technical problems and unfulfilled promises clouded the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. Critics and players punished this in their ratings, and the role-playing game has even partially disappeared from the stores in the meantime.
But today it looks very different: Thanks to numerous and sometimes really extensive updates, Cyberpunk 2077 plays better than ever and that is reflected in the consensus of the community and also in the sales figures – explicitly in the last year.
Cyberpunk 2077 increased its sales by a whopping 18 percent in 2022which ensured CD Projekt Red had its second-best year ever. Impressive for video games in general, but especially for a single-player title, which usually generates fewer and fewer sales just a few weeks after release.
That looks pretty decent in CD Projekt Red’s balance sheet.
Several factors are undoubtedly responsible for this increase: Among other things, the massive patch 1.5, which brought numerous important improvements and even new features to Cyberpunk 2077. Of course, the popularity of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has also helped, as it did with The Witcher 3 and the Netflix series starring Henry Cavill.
And then, of course, more updates like patch 1.6 came along as the community voice turned more and more positive. The ratings on platforms like Steam and the general hype on YouTube, Twitter, Reddit and Co. have contributed to more and more people trying Cyberpunk 2077 or giving the role-playing game a second chance.
So the prerequisites for this year are excellent for CD Projekt Red to add to Cyberpunk 2077. Phantom Liberty is the first and only major story DLC to appear, while the developers have already revealed what else is planned for future updates. You can find out more about this in the links above.
