She said that she had met Pichardo and his wife, as well as another couple, earlier that day in the hotel restaurant in what she described as a friendly encounter.

York claims she went back to her hotel room overnight when Pichardo allegedly knocked on her door and said his wife had heard screams.

In an interview from her hospital bed, York said CTV he forced his way to her room.

York said she woke up next to the bed but had lost some vision in her eyes. She claims that Pichardo was still in the room and that he seemed to have fainted.

She was rushed to the hospital after she fled the room to seek help.

She had to undergo surgery for about nine hours to reconstruct her face after the attack.

York suffered multiple facial fractures, a broken orbital bone, and various wounds to the face and neck in the attack.

Doctors had to wait 48 hours before they could perform surgery because of the amount of swelling in the face of York, according to one GoFundMe page set up by her family.

York now has plates in her cheek and gauze around an eye in an effort to fix the muscles.

Despite traveling for work as a flight attendant, York said she will no longer travel alone after the horror attack.
