Steven Tyler was spotted in a Beverly Hills parking garage on Tuesday in his first public sighting since retiring from touring with his beloved band Aerosmith due to a vocal injury.
The 76-year-old legendary rocker showed off his eccentric style in a black blazer, gray Gucci scarf, furry brown boa, flared blue jeans and colorful ombré sneakers.
Steven – who had his signature white-spotted dark brown mane – held what looked like an ice pack, wrapped in a resealable bag, to his chin and jaw.
Tyler (née Tallarico) is gearing up for his sixth annual Jam for Janie, a viewing party for the 67th annual Grammy Awards, taking place on February 2 at the Hollywood Palladium with host Tiffany Haddish.
Tickets and tables cost between $3,000 and $100,000, with all proceeds benefiting his nine-year-old charity Janie’s Fund, which provides crucial resources to young women in America who have suffered abuse and neglect.
But first, on January 30, Janie’s Fund will host Sounds of Laughter, the first-ever private comedy soirée at The Comedy Store “that will rock your world with some of the funniest people in the world.”
Steven Tyler was spotted in a Beverly Hills parking garage on Tuesday in his first public sighting since retiring from touring with his beloved band Aerosmith due to a vocal injury.
The Manhattan-born musician was “heartbroken” when he suffered “vocal cord damage leading to subsequent bleeding” during Aerosmith’s final concert on September 9, 2023 at the UBS Arena in New York.
Two months later, Steven shared an encouraging photo of him remixing the four-time Grammy-winning band’s latest recordings in the studio while his “throat was healing.”
But on August 2, all hope was lost when Aerosmith issued a statement announcing their retirement after Tyler had “worked tirelessly for months to get” his four-octave tenor pipes where they were before his injury.
“We’ve seen him struggle despite having the best medical team at his side,” the Boston band – featuring Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer and Brad Whitford – wrote.
‘Unfortunately, it is clear that a full recovery from his voice injury is not possible. As a band of brothers, we have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary decision to withdraw from the tour stage.”
This, two years after Steven – who completed a drug rehabilitation program in 1984, 1986, 1988 and 2010 – began a treatment program after falling back on painkillers following foot surgery.
During his retirement years, Tyler will be able to spend much more quality time with his four adult children and six grandchildren, ages 2 to 19.
The Daytime Emmy nominee had daughter Liv, 47; daughter Mia, 45; daughter Chelsea, 35; and son Taj, 33; during his relationships with Bebe Buell, ex-wife No. 1 Cyrinda Foxe and ex-wife No. 2 Teresa Barrick.
Aerosmith – who have sold 150 million records worldwide – were inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 – the same year they headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show alongside Britney Spears, NSYNC and Nelly.
On Wednesday, the band proudly announced yet, in 2024, they managed to amass 88 million listeners and 805 million streams on Spotify: “Thanks for listening and keeping Aerosmith’s legacy alive!”
