Former Australian captain Steve Smith married his girlfriend Dani Willis in Sydney on Saturday. Smith took Instagram to express his happiness and posted an impressive photo for everyone to know. "Today I got to marry my best friend, what an amazing day, @Dani_willis looked amazingly beautiful," Smith wrote on Twitter. The couple met at a Sydney bar during the inaugural season of the Big Bash League.
The 29-year-old cricketer then proposed to Willis, who studied law and commerce at Macquarie University, at the top of the Rockefeller Center in New York in 2017.
In March of this year, Smith, his deputy David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were involved in a ball alteration scandal that sent shockwaves through the world of cricket.
In the third Test of Cape Town against South Africa, Bancroft was captured by the camera, using a yellow tape loaded with dirt to alter the state of the ball.
Then, in the most dazzling revelation, Smith and Bancroft admitted cheating in an explosive press conference.
Smith was stripped of his captaincy and was the subject of a lot of ridicule in what turned out to be one of the most shocking incidents in the history of the sport.
Smith and Warner received one-year bans, while Cricket Australia banned Bancroft for nine months.
After that incident, the rumors revolved around that Smith's wedding with Willis had been suspended.
However, despite all the difficulties in the last six months, the couple remained united and finally entered the marriage in a discreet ceremony.
On the job front, Smith keeps busy with T20 tournaments around the world while serving his 12-month suspension.
