Stephen A. Smith silenced Bill Maher’s audience Friday night with his candid assessment of why Donald Trump secured his return to the White House.
ESPN star Smith, who made a name for himself in sports media, has recently become more outspoken on political topics since Trump won the election in November.
Smith voted Democrat at the time, but quickly admitted that he regretted the choice he made.
In recent weeks he has been critical of the party and even recently predicted that they will struggle to defeat JD Vance in the next presidential election in 2028.
Smith was asked for his opinion by Maher on the late-night chat show while sitting next to Republican Congressman Ro Khanna.
And his response silenced the Maher crowd as Smith delivered a fair takedown of the Democrats.

Donald Trump flew to Los Angeles on Friday after officially returning to the White House
He said: “The man was impeached twice, he was convicted of 34 crimes, and the American people were still saying, ‘He’s closer to normal than what we see on the left.’
‘Why? Because when you’re talking about the transgender community, for example, and you’re talking about issues that affect less than one percent of the population, the Democratic party came across as if that was more of a priority than other issues.
“So when he appears on Capitol Hill in the first week, he says, ‘Here’s what we’re going to do through an executive order,’ even though it’s going to be shot down in court.
‘But he says, ‘I kept my promise.’ Then you turn and look to your left and you say, “What promises have you kept?”
“What voter out there can look at the Democratic party and say, ‘There’s a voice for us, someone to speak for us, to go to Capitol Hill and fight the battles we want them to fight on our behalf.’
“They didn’t do that and that’s why they’re home and that man is back in the White House. He does what he said he was going to do. He promised you he would do these things and he walked into his office and that’s exactly what he does.”
Smith admitted as much earlier this week Trump placed itself above the law by pardoning two notorious former far-right leaders involved in the storming of the Capitol.
Just hours into his second term as president, Trump sparked major controversy by jailing Stewart Rhodes, founder of the anti-government militia the Oath Keepers, and Henry “Enrique” Tarrio, who previously headed the extremist group Proud Boys to release. Tuesday.

Rhodes was serving an 18-year prison sentence for his role in the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021, while Tarrio was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
Despite both men being convicted of seditious conspiracy, one of Trump’s first acts as president was to release from prison after signing the clemency order.
And while his blanket pardon freed at least 1,500 people charged in the riots, which occurred after his 2020 election defeat to Joe Biden, Smith believes Rhodes and Tarrio in particular should not have walked free.
“As far as forgiving people for the riots at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, I disagree with that decision by the President of the United States,” the ESPN First Take host said. said on his YouTube show.
‘I believe that many people should have been pardoned. But when you take the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers (leaders) out of jail, and given the charges leveled against them… against anyone who engaged in violence, that should have been different for me.
“When you are the Commander in Chief of the United States of America, when you preach about the importance of law and order, and someone has been blatantly guilty of lawlessness, but you give him a pass just because he supported you … ‘don’t support the law, you support you.’
