Team USA gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik, who became known as “the pommel horse guy” after his skills on the apparatus propelled the U.S. team to a team bronze medal, has been announced as the first celebrity contestant for season 33 of “Dancing with the Stars.”
Nedoroscik, 25, rose to stardom at the Paris Olympics when the stuntman helped the U.S. men to their first team medal in gymnastics in 16 years, then won his own individual bronze medal on the apparatus.
And now he’ll be trying his luck in the world of dance, as ABC announced on Thursday’s “Good Morning America” that he’ll be joining “DWTS” as the first male gymnast to compete on the show.
Host Robin Roberts asked Nedoroscik if she would use any of her gymnastics moves on the dance floor.
“I hope I can do some of them. I want to do some somersaults, some gymnastics. Maybe a backflip or a handstand. I want to have fun with that,” she said.

Nedoroscik won two bronze medals in Paris and became a national sensation in her country.
The former Penn State star even showed off some of his pommel moves on GMA before sitting down for an interview.
Nedoroscik added that his answer was an immediate “yes” when he was approached to do the show and that he was “very excited” to get started.
The glasses-wearing gymnast, who some have compared to Clark Kent, was also asked if he would keep his glasses on while competing on DWTS.
“I could have some fun with this. I’m scared they’ll fly away,” she said. “Maybe we can make a device that will keep them on, maybe a new pair of glasses, that matches the theme.”
The remaining contestants will be announced at a later date.

That cast could include Eagles legend Jason Kelce as The sun The recently retired offensive lineman has reportedly been offered the chance to appear on the show.
The 36-year-old is reportedly interested in appearing on the reality show and Kelce is said to be eager to show off his dancing skills.
The show will film in Los Angeles and begin airing on September 17, two weeks after the start of the 2024 NFL season.
