As a free agent, Ireland can be signed out of the transfer period and the clubs are weighing a contract offer for the former Manchester City star and Aston Villa.

The former Ireland international made only five appearances last season after recovering from a serious injury, but he's fit again and is free to talk to the clubs.

Ireland has spent time training with Bolton Wanderers this summer, but could not agree on the terms of a proposed deal with the Championship team.

The midfielder will evaluate his options and is expected to make a decision about his future in the coming days.
