Stephen A. Smith has clashed with Bob Myers over the former Golden State Warriors general manager’s suggestion that he “tear up teams” before Game 2 of the NBA Finals.
Discussing Jason Kidd’s comments about Jaylen Brown being the Celtics’ best player, not Jayson Tatum, just a few days ago before Game 1, Meyers noted that the media has debates to divide teams’ locker rooms, as suggested that Smith is one of the reporters doing exactly that.
Meyers was the face of the Warriors’ front office from 2012 to 2023, winning four NBA titles after identifying and assembling the talents of Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson. He was also behind the Kevin Durant trade in 2016 and often had to answer questions about who was the better player between the power forward and Curry.
“The Celtics are on top, right?” Myers said. ‘And every time you’re at the top, people used to come to Curry and Durant. They would attack you in the media. They attack you in the street. And the thing is, and Josh knows this, what matters is your wardrobe. The fabric of that wardrobe and what they can support.
‘You had that Knicks fabric this year, but it’s hard to find. We destroy teams more than ever. Maybe on purpose, maybe not, maybe that guy down there (pointing to Smith).’
Stephen A. Smith didn’t appreciate Bob Myers’ suggestion that he “tear up teams” before Game 2 of the NBA Finals.
That’s when Smith jumped into self-defense and said, ‘Not me. I don’t. I don’t. That’s social media. That is not me.’
As the rest of the panel burst out laughing, Myers joked that he must have wrongly accused the wrong member of the media.
“Maybe you can,” Myers asked. ‘Is that someone else? For a second I thought it was you.
He added: “We do this… we attack teams… and supposedly when you are the best team.” That’s the team we try the hardest on and that’s what the kids do too…’
In May, Smith spoke with Green after the Warriors star appeared on Shaquille O’Neal’s podcast to say he had “lost respect” for the pundit.
Myers’ opinion of Smith was based on Jason Kidd’s suggestion that Jaylen Brown is Boston’s best player and not Jayson Tatum, a frequent debate in the sports media.
Defending Green, ESPN’s ‘First Take’ co-host Molly Qerim asked Smith if he had the courtesy to warn the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year about his previous takes that could have potentially hurt the NBA star. NBA in the past.
Earlier this year, in March, Smith had another fight, this time with his ESPN colleague Pat McAfee. The former punter had an “explosive argument” with the veteran NBA pundit, whom he called a “son of a bitch” during the fight.
The mysterious standoff has reportedly been cleared up, with Smith saying he has “no problem” with McAfee, who now claims to have “nothing but love for Stephen A.”
