Stephanie Beatriz, Keith David and Alex Brightman will star in Prime Video’s upcoming dark animated comedy for adults Hazbin Hotel.
The full voice cast — along with a teaser of an original song — was revealed Saturday at New York Comic Con. Erika Henningsen, Kimiko Glenn, Blake Roman and Amir Talai were also announced as series regulars at the event, with Christian Borle and Joel Perez rounding out the voice ensemble as the notable demons of Hell, Vox and Valentino, respectively.
Henningsen, known for her role as Cady Heron in Broadway’s Mean girls musical, will voice Charlie, Lucifer’s estranged daughter who wants to find a way to redeem sinners to heaven through rehabilitation at the Hazbin Hotel. Beatriz plays Vaggie, her very protective friend and a skilled fighter with a heart of gold.
David is Husk, the grumpy gambler and magician who is drafted to work as the Hazbin Hotel’s bartender through a deal made with one of Hell’s powerful overlords, Alastor. The radio demon, voiced by Amir Talai, is the hotel’s wickedly charismatic host.
Brightman – who also starred in Broadways Beetle juice and Netflix animated series Dead End: Paranormal Park – will play Sir Pentious, a Victorian-era demon with a desire to be modern and cool, who counts building steampunk machines of destruction among his main passions.
Glenn, who has an extensive career as a voice actor and appeared in Orange is the new blackhas been cast as Niffty, a character drafted to work at the hotel who is not afraid to get dirty and enjoys cleaning up messes with a cheerful – yet creepy – charm.
Roman will voice Angel Dust, a famous porn star and the first sinner Hazbin Hotel tries to redeem.
The animated music series, from creator Vivienne Medrano, A24 and FOX Entertainment’s animation studio Bento Box Entertainment, is based on an animated pilot released on YouTube in 2019.
Hazbin Hotel follows Charlie, the princess of Hell, as she pursues her seemingly impossible goal of reducing the overpopulation of her kingdom by rehabilitating demons after an annual extermination imposed by angels.
She is supported by her devoted partner, Vaggie, and their first test subject, adult film star Angel Dust, despite much of Hell mocking her cause. When an entity known as the ‘Radio Demon’ offers Charlie its aid in her efforts, her wild dream comes closer to becoming a reality.
Medrano director produces and directs all episodes. Joel Kuwahara, Dana Tafoya-Cameron and Scott Greenberg also serve as EPs. Last month, Prime Video announced that the series had been given a two-season order and would premiere in January 2024.
