The boss of the global car giant that owns Vauxhall resigned last night just days after announcing the closure of its Luton factory.
Stellantis, which also owns the Peugeot, Fiat and Jeep brands, said it had accepted Carlos Tavares’ resignation.
The closure of the Luton plant has put around 1,100 jobs at risk.
Stellantis senior independent director Henri de Castries said: “Different views have emerged in recent weeks which have led the board and CEO to make today’s decision.”

Europe’s second-largest carmaker has been struggling amid a drop in demand for electric vehicles. A process to find a replacement will be concluded within the first half of next year, the board said.
