‘We are very similar in our way of being,’ said Paula. ‘As we do the same thing, we empathize a lot with each other.

‘On the other hand, I think we have also experienced very similar things in the past and that has forged similar characters. He is perhaps a slightly more introverted person and I am more extroverted, but I think we complement each other very well. He always mentioned that we were like soulmates and I think he is absolutely right.

Stefanos added: ‘The truth is that we have had very similar lives. From the moment we picked up a racket as kids, our path to professional tennis has been more or less the same. I think most of us players have followed practically the same path.

‘For me it has not been an easy journey to be here and meet Paula. I think if it hadn’t been for tennis we wouldn’t have met. We should honor him for coming together.”

They first met in 2020, but it took a few years before they finally got together. Paula has revealed that Stefanos made the first move in May last year and that the duo went public in June.

And Stefanos has detailed his feelings when he first saw his now partner, explaining how he knew from the beginning that it was love.

“The first time I noticed Paula was when I saw her at the 2020 Australian Open, playing on center court,” he said. “It was love at first sight and I was completely mesmerized.”

After previously separating, he added about their future together: “We both have very clear priorities, which obviously involve taking care of each other, sharing a house as soon as possible, but above all there is tennis for both of us.” Right now, we both have to be very focused on that.

‘We have both fought hard to be among the best in the world at what we do and we have to take advantage of it. We are very clear about that and we know that later the time will come to enjoy everything else as a couple.”
