Two of the 15 finalists are from the UK. London-based Notpla Hard Material makes packaging from algae and plants as an alternative to single-use plastic, while County Durham-based Low Carbon Materials uses non-recyclable plastic waste to make concrete blocks with zero carbon emissions.

The awards will be broadcast on the BBC in the UK on Sunday at 5:30pm
