As they begin their investigation, the “forces they face are more sinister than they ever imagined.”
The cast also includes Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Joonas Suotamo, who also reprises the role of Chewbacca from the Star Wars sequel trilogy, took over the role from the late Peter Mayhew, who died in 2019.
The series is created by longtime Star Wars fan Lesyle Headland, best known for creating the Netflix series Russian Doll.
The Acolyte will represent some firsts in Star Wars history, including being the first show to be told from the perspective of Sith villains.
It will also be the first TV show or movie set in the Star Wars timeline, a century before the prequel trilogy.
While there are many books, comics, and video games exploring the High Republic era, this will be the first live-action project to explore it.
Headland explained to EW’s Dagobah Dispatch podcast in July 2023: “We’re towards the end of the High Republic, leading into the George (Lucas) prequels, so we’re looking at a period where the Jedi are at the peak of their power. …(and) there is peace throughout the galaxy.
“It was very challenging and interesting to do a Star Wars (project) without war. So the question became, ‘Well, what should the show be about if it’s not about galactic conflict?'” she added.

The Acolyte will represent some firsts in Star Wars history, including being the first show to be told from the perspective of the evil Sith.
“I think what makes this show different and interesting is that it’s presented from the perspective of the Star Wars villains,” she added.
“These are people who use the Force in their own way, tapping into the darker sides of the Force and doing so without being sanctioned by the larger institution, which, in this case, is the Jedi,” he said. -she continued.
Headland added that there will be “more Jedi than you’ve seen in any other Star Wars content”, but there will also be more “morally ambiguous characters”.
“Star Wars is always about a version of the underdog versus the institution. And I just thought it was very interesting to do a show about villains and being set during that time period made the most sense. “So it’s almost inverted,” she said.
