The Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars TV show will bring Hayden Christensen back as Darth Vader / Anakin Skywalker for another apprentice-master showdown – but another prequel-era Jedi may be interested in a return.
Actor Liam Neeson, when asked if he’d like to reprise his role as the Episode I Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn in the upcoming Disney Plus show, sounded pretty positive. “Sure, I’d be up for that,” he said Collider.
Collider also pointed out that fans often ask for Neeson’s return as the character. “I’ll be honest: I haven’t heard that at all,” said Neeson. Honestly, that was our reaction when it comes to revisiting the prequel trilogy – but fans’ perceptions of the prequel movies seem to be slowly turning towards the positive, probably due to younger generations having their first foray into Star Wars received from Episodes I -III. The prequel-era The Clone Wars show no doubt helped their reputation, too.
The Disney Plus show is now expected to have started filming, so if the plan was for Qui-Gon to reappear, it probably would have already happened. Still, Neeson seemed unaware of the very busy future of Star Wars, and allegedly asked Collider if “Star Wars [is] starts to fade from it [the] cinema landscape “.
The next Star Wars movie set for cinemas is Rogue Squadron, which will be released in 2023.
Should Qui-Gon return?
Our take on the Obi-Wan Kenobi show is that it gives Lucasfilm a chance to save the prequels’ reputation a bit – while also further connecting the dots between the movies and the animated shows. Having Qui-Gon appear would be a nice way to promote that, and the whole ‘Force Ghost’ concept essentially justifies the possibility of its return.
But as we said, if Neeson hasn’t been asked yet, it probably isn’t on the map.
