Researchers say the actor thought his Jeep Grand Cherokee 2015 was in the park, but it was actually in neutral.

Yelchin is believed to have died of blunt traumatic asphyxia almost immediately, but his body was only discovered hours later when his worried friends came to check on him.

It was later revealed that Yelchin's SUV was recalled weeks earlier for a defect that caused drivers to confuse neutral and park gears. He had received a written notification of the recall a week before the fatal accident.

About two months after the tragedy, Yelchin's parents filed an unlawful death proceedings against the maker of the SUV, Fiat Chrysler.
