A teenager was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed on a bus in Melbourne.

Emergency services were called to Fitzsimons Lane, Templestowe, at around 4:30pm on Thursday after receiving reports of a disturbance on a bus.

Victoria Police say the stabbing occurred during an alleged altercation between the 16-year-old victim and another man.

The teenager was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He was released Friday morning when police confirmed that his alleged attacker is still at large and no charges have been filed.

“They both got out of the bus and the offender ran off,” police said in a statement.

Police believe the men may have known each other.

Nearly four hours after the incident, roads were still blocked while officers searched the area and took statements from the bus driver and other witnesses.

Investigators believe that both men got off the bus after the incident and that the suspected offender ran away before police arrived on the scene.
