A boxing star and former Biggest Loser celebrity trainer is joining the race trying to unseat Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of her New York Senate seat.

Cara Castronuova, 44, is staunchly pro-Trump and entered the Republican primary late, but says she believes “it will take a female candidate” to beat Gillibrand.

“I feel like everything is open for someone, the right candidate, to win in New York, and I feel like I am that right candidate,” she told DailyMail.com. “If there was someone better than me, I would gladly not run.”

Castronuova, of Chinese, Filipino and Italian descent, said she would focus her campaign on medical freedom, fighting political persecution and addressing the issue of immigrants and how it affects New York.

He said New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ initiative to give immigrants $13 a day on a prepaid credit card is “sad” when there are Americans and veterans living below the poverty line.

Castronuova is also a conservative journalist and has been a strong defender of those who were persecuted for crimes at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Although she has not spoken to Trump about running for office, Castronuova has the endorsement of several people in the MAGA world, including former New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani and former Trump adviser Roger Stone.

The former boxer and two-time Golden Gloves champion says she is prepared to ‘fight’ and is ‘not afraid’ of the tough road to victory.

“Three years ago I was fighting for the political prisoners of January 6, when no one else could even talk about this; it was taboo,” he told DailyMail.com in an interview. ‘At first I was fighting against lockdowns, for medical freedom. And in the same way I want to fight for the Senate seat and for the people of New York.’

‘[I’m] I’m not afraid to say how I feel and who I am, unapologetically being, you know, America’s first candidate here in New York, which I think kind of separates me from the other candidates right now.’

Retired NYPD Detective Michael Sapraicone and businessman Josh Eisen are also in the Republican primary race for New York’s Senate seat. Sapraicone is considered the front-runner and could likely garner some of the biggest endorsements from Republican leaders in the state.

Gillibrand was appointed to the United States Senate from New York in 2008, when President Brack Obama selected then-New York junior senator Hillary Clinton as his Secretary of State.

Although New York is considered a Democratic stronghold due to the huge liberal population in New York City, Castronuova says the state is “not as blue as everyone thinks” and believes now is the time to flip the seat.

“I think it’s an opportunity that the Republican Party should take very seriously, but with the right candidate, and I feel like that’s me,” he said. “I fight with all my heart for the things I believe in and I strive even when they are unpopular.”
