Cost savings campaign: St James's Place has abandoned its annual company meetings in London

St James’s Place has scrapped glitzy staff meetings in a bid to repair its image following criticism over rates and a cost-saving drive that could lead to 500 redundancies.

The UK’s largest wealth manager has abandoned its annual company meetings in London, which have included lavish dinners and guest speakers such as Bill Clinton and David Beckham, and the next meeting in January will be held virtually.

The Financial Times said spring sports holidays at the Gleneagles hotel could also be scrapped.
