2023 has been another busy year for Square Enix with the releases of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, Forspoken, and Octopath Traveler II. However, the company hopes to expand, and that could include creating or acquiring new studios.
Square Enix revealed today that it is considering both new studios and the acquisition of existing studios as part of its plan to grow its internal development resources.
According For the company’s full earnings report Released today, Square Enix plans to “consider mergers and acquisitions, establish new studios, and acquire minority stakes” to bring in more external development resources.
In addition, it plans to hire more engineers and developers “to not only develop high-definition games for smart devices, but to create cross-platform content.”
Square Enix also revealed that sales and profits fell during fiscal 2023, though it attributed that in part to a lack of expansions compared to last year for Final Fantasy XIV, and the company expects a stronger fiscal year in 2024.
