With over 500 million users, Spotify is undoubtedly one of the most popular music streaming apps in the world. But users are furious after the news that Spotify is raising its prices in both the UK and the US. Its premium, duo, and family plans have increased by $1/mo, which means some users are now paying a whopping $16.99/mo for their subscription. While Spotify claims that the price increase will allow it to “continue to innovate”, many users have criticized the change as “greedy”.

Spotify announced price increases for its Premium plans in various markets, with the goal of continuing to provide value to fans and artists. The US saw changes with the family plan now costing $17 per month. Student subscription fees remained unchanged. Spotify will notify customers of the changes via email.

Several users have taken to Twitter, with many calling Spotify “greedy.” ‘Do Spotify’s price increases mean they’re going to pay artists more? I doubt. Rather, greedy executives want more money in their pockets,” wrote one user. Another added: “Spotify is just greedy putting the price of a single account at $11.” Meanwhile, others have revealed that they will be canceling their accounts following the price increase. “After 14 years I don’t love you enough to pay an extra $2/mo #ByeFelicia,” one user tweeted.
