Spotify launches an AI DJ with a ‘stunningly realistic voice’ that creates personalized mixes based on your music taste

Whether it’s the latest chart hits or a classic soul album, Spotify already has something for music lovers of almost every taste.
Now the tech giant has launched its most personalized service, in the form of an AI DJ.
The DJ, named X, has a ‘stunningly realistic voice’ and creates personalized mixes based on your music taste.
“The DJ is a personalized AI guide that knows you and your taste in music so well that it can choose what to play for you,” explains Spotify.
“This feature, rolling out in beta for the first time, delivers a curated lineup of music alongside commentary around the songs and artists we think you’ll love, with a stunningly realistic voice.”

The AI DJ is Spotify’s latest personalized offering, following the success of other features like Discover Weekly and Wrapped.
“The beauty of these experiences is our ability to deliver the right piece of music for that exact moment in time, and maybe even connect you with your next favorite artist in the process,” explains Spotify.
“We are building on that innovation by harnessing the power of AI in a whole new way.”
The DJ uses OpenAI technology to search your latest music and old favourites, before combining it with tracks it thinks you might like.
Your personalized mix is provided by X, whose voice is based on Xavier ‘X’ Jernigan, Spotify’s Head of Cultural Partnerships and one of the hosts on Spotify’s podcast, The Get Up.
His personality and voice resonated with our listeners and resulted in a loyal following for the podcast.
“His voice is the first model for the DJ, and we will continue to iterate and innovate, as we do with all our products.”
Fortunately, if you’re not enjoying the mix, you can tap the DJ button and it will change things.
“The more you listen and tell the DJ what you like (and don’t like!) the better the recommendations get,” Spotify added.

The AI DJ is currently available to Spotify Premium users in the US and Canada, with it remaining unclear when it will launch in the UK.
If you’re in the US or Canada, you can find the feature by going to your music feed on Home in the Spotify mobile app.
Tap Play on the DJ card and it will deliver your personalized mix.
Since its launch yesterday, the AI DJ has received a huge amount of attention from impressed fans on Twitter.
One tweeted, “The Spotify DJ AI-powered feature is a game changer.”
Another added, “The AI generated voice is incredible, love it when it adds extra details about the artist, new releases.”
And one of them quipped, “Can I let the AI know when I’m breaking up with a girl, so there’s enough sad songs in the list?”
