Sportsmail’s campaign in honor of Tottenham and English legend Jimmy Greaves will strike on the eve of his 80th birthday at Spurs Stadium on Wednesday evening
Sportsmail will be at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday evening to continue our Jimmy Greaves campaign while Spurs celebrates their biggest scorer on the eve of his 80th birthday.
We will distribute 5,000 leaflets in the streets around the stadium and encourage fans to find out “Give Greavsie a Gong” and sign an online petition that has drawn more than 21,000 signatures in less than a week.
Tottenham and English legend Gary Lineker have become the newest star to add his name to our petition, in the footsteps of Harry Kane and Jose Mourinho, who also supported the campaign to see Greaves formally through the honors system is recognized for his contribution to American football.

Jimmy’s son Danny said that the family is overwhelmed by the reaction.
Greaves has been eliminated five years ago since a major stroke and is not good enough to attend the Champions League final 16 match against RB Leipzig, but relatives will be one of the guests of honor if Spurs devote the opportunity to him.
He scored 266 goals, including 15 hat tricks, in less than nine years at the club and it has been 50 years since he left for West Ham.

“Jimmy’s goalkeeping records have stood the test of time in national and international football, marking him as one of the greatest English attackers ever,” Tottenham president Daniel Levy told Sportsmail when we launched the campaign.
“His contribution to the history of our club is considerable and that is why he is one of the first players that every supporter still talks about when discussing the best players who wear our colors.
“Soccer players are still being compared to Jimmy and his performance. We look forward to welcoming Jimmy’s family to our match against RB Leipzig on the occasion of his 80th birthday. “

Tottenham was the first English team to raise a European trophy when they won the European Cup-Winners ’Cup in 1963. Greaves scored twice in a 5-1 win over Atletico Madrid in the final in Rotterdam.
