“Everyone seems to know something about the doll, but nobody really wants to talk about it,” Hinchinbrook MP Nick Dametto told the paper. Townsville Bulletin.

He said no one knows where she came from or how she got on the swing under a low-hanging tree.

Most locals know the girl, as do fishermen catching lines off the Hinchinbrook Channel, but they are wary of getting ‘too close’.

Even a quick “hello” to the doll would be enough to spell mischief.

“I’ve heard stories of people getting too close to the doll and having bad luck while boating or fishing,” Mr Dametto said.

“This could be pure circumstance or just a modern woman’s story, but it’s something I definitely don’t want to play with.”

He said every question he asked locals about the doll seemed to lead to more questions without anyone knowing the answers.

Another business owner reportedly said the doll was made by a “sweet” local couple, who wanted to add some color to the city.

However, Mr Dametto warned that the girl’s origin was a “local mystery” and said most were “tired” of finding out.
