Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse took in $120.5 million in its US release weekend. Worldwide revenues amounted to $208.6 million, setting a record as the biggest ever opening for a Sony Pictures animated film.
And according to a report from Comscore, Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse’s $120 million in North America is more than 3 times that of 2018’s opening Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which took in $35 million.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse also managed to outpace Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which earned $114 million this week and became the second-best opening of 2023, behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which was named the best opening of the year so far with $137 million.
The Little Mermaid took in $40.6 million and finished in second place for the weekend, which helped push its North American total to $186.2 million. Worldwide, the film’s total box office revenue exceeded $326 million.
Another Disney movie in the top 5 this week is 20th Century Studios’ The Boogeyman, which grossed $12.3 million at its opening, an adaptation of Stephen King’s 1973 short novel.

Not only did Disney have two films among the top five, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finished fourth with revenues of $10.2 million in its fifth week in cinemas. The third Guardians movie grossed $322.71 million in America and $780.1 million worldwide.
Fast X came in fifth place, with revenues of $9.24 million in North America. Fast X’s total revenues in North America exceeded 128, with $603.2 million worldwide.
