“We have more than 18,000 healthcare providers and other professionals in Israel,” MEA spokesperson said on March 8.

New Delhi:

The first batch of more than sixty Indian construction workers will go to Israel, Israeli envoy to India Naor Gilon said on Tuesday.

He said the workers are going to Israel under an inter-government agreement and complimented India’s National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) for the initiative.

“Today we had a farewell event of the first batch of over sixty Indian construction workers who went to Israel under the G2G agreement. This is the result of the hard work of many including @NSDCINDIA,” Gilon said.

“I am confident that the workers will become ‘ambassadors’ of the great P2P relationships between India and Israel,” he said.

There has been no official announcement yet on cementing an agreement between governments on the employment of Indian workers in Israel.

Following the conflict between Israel and Hamas, media reports emerged saying that Israel’s construction industry wants to recruit 100,000 Indian workers to replace 90,000 Palestinians. Last month, India said it is focusing on ensuring the safety and security of all its citizens in Israel, following the death of an Indian in that country in a rocket attack allegedly launched by Hezbollah.

“We have more than 18,000 healthcare providers and other professionals in Israel. Their safety and security is of utmost importance to us,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on March 8.
