Southerners upset after popular hot dog brand is discontinued: ‘Only wieners we like’

Supermarket chain Rouses Markets has begun alerting shoppers via social media that they are receiving their final shipments of hot dogs.

One of the most popular hot dog brands in Louisiana and throughout the South is about to disappear from shelves.

Bryan Wiener hot dogs have been the go-to choice for many families during cookouts, game days, and cheap weeknight dinners.

But parent company Tyson Foods stopped making the favorites, which cost about $1.59 for a 12-pack, on Oct. 1. Stock is still in stores, but running low.

Grocery chain Rouses Markets, which has 53 stores in Louisiana, three in Mississippi and eight in Alabama, alerted shoppers via Facebook of the news and that stores are receiving their final shipments.

‘That’s wrong!! We just love sausages,” read one of hundreds of messages from distraught customers.

An email from Bryan Foods to supermarkets confirmed the news.

‘Well, the days have come. “Tyson Foods has made the decision to discontinue Bryan 12 count red hot dogs…effective October 1,” the email received reads. posted on social media.

Meanwhile, wake up the markets aware on their Facebook page: ‘Last call for Bryan’s hot dog lovers.

‘Our last supply of Bryan Hotdogs is now in stores. The manufacturer is discontinuing the product.

‘Hurry up and grab them while you can; once they’re gone, they’re really gone!’

Customers flooded the post with more than 600 comments, and most were saddened to hear the end of Bryan’s hot dogs.

‘That’s wrong!! We only love weiners,” Martha Ball posted below the post.

Bill Atkinson replied: “That’s the only kind I eat.”

And Debbie Pylant wrote: ‘That’s the only kind I buy! ‘She makes great spaghetti and sausages!’

But Shelly Taylor chimed in: “For me, it’s Nathan or neither.” It was a reference to market leader Nathan’s, which hosted the famous hot dog eating contest that made Joey Chestnut a star.

And Fallon Duhon wrote: ‘Eww, it’s about time. I can’t believe people eat pink hot dogs.

Hot dogs, a favorite for the Fourth of July, are consumed in astonishing quantities. In fact, on the Fourth of July alone, Americans devour 150 million hot dogs a year.

Every year, Bryan’s rival Nathan’s hosts a hot dog eating contest.

This year, veteran champion Joey Chestnut was banned from Nathan’s official contest after signing a sponsorship deal with a vegan brand.

But a rival competition was organized for him to go head to head with his old rival, Akeru Kobayashi.

Chestnut defeated Kobayashi by setting a world record with 83 buns and sausages consumed in 10 minutes.

Chestnut broke his own world record by seven hot dogs in the 1-on-1 competitive eating showdown held in Las Vegas.

It was the first time since 2009 that Kobayashi and Chestnut faced off in a hot dog eating contest.

This was also the first year since 2000 that neither competed in Nathan’s Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest in Brooklyn, New York.

Chestnut did not compete in this year’s Nathan’s contest for the first time since 2004 due to his sponsorship with Impossible Foods.
