Southampton have labeled James Ward-Prowse as not for sale due to Aston Villa’s interest in their captaincy.
Ambitious Villa is plotting a transfer for England midfielder Ward-Prowse as a follow-up to their club-record attack on Norwich’s Argentine midfielder Emi Buendia.
Villa has signaled their intent in the transfer market by outbidding Arsenal and are poised to complete the takeover of Buendia in a deal worth around £35million.

A move for set-piece specialist Ward-Prowse would be equally daring and while Villa plans to test their rivals’ determination in the coming week, the heads of St Mary’s have no intention of letting their 26-year-old skipper let go.
Southampton tied Ward-Prowse to a new five-year deal last summer, and he has made more than 300 appearances for Southampton since coming out of their academy, establishing himself as a banner for their academy.
He underlined his value to the club by playing every minute of their Premier League season for the second campaign in a row and enjoying his best season in front of goal in 2020/21, scoring nine goals and scoring eight more .

The English midfielder, who appeared in his country’s first warm-up match for the Euro 2020 against Austria on Wednesday, was left out of the 26-man squad but was named by manager Gareth Southgate as one of six backup players.
He hopes to be called up as the injury replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will be announced on Sunday after England’s second and final friendly before the tournament against Romania.
Seven-cap international Ward-Prowse, who scored his first international goal in March against San Marino in a 5-0 win in World Cup qualifiers, could play in that match.
