- The two teams arrived in Port Elizabeth with the four Test series 1-1
- Ben Stokes was the hero of England again on day one to avoid a collapse of the battle
- Stokes and Ollie Pope combined in a continuous 76
England will want to take advantage of good work from Ben Stokes and Ollie Pope on day two of the third test against South Africa.
Stokes and Pope combined in an uninterrupted 76 score in the evening session, taking the tourists away from a potentially awkward position on the first day to a promising stump score of 224 for four.
Stokes’ ability to take charge of a game, with a bat or ball, needs no repetition and Pope looked on beautifully as he cashed in on a fatiguing attack. Together they will try to push England to 400, leaving their bowlers with the safety net they need on a slow field in Port Elizabeth.
South Africa, meanwhile, can once again rely on the dual pillars of Keshav Maharaj’s spin and Kagiso Rabada’s pace as they look for a foothold in the game.
