Windsor Castle made history this weekend by hosting its first ever Ramadan event.

For the first time in British history, the Berkshire royal estate welcomed guests for a post-sunset lftar on the castle grounds.

Before Iftar, which is the fast-breaking evening meal for Muslims during the ninth month called Ramadan, guests were able to tour the State Apartments at Windsor Castle.

Co-organized by Royal Collection Trust and Ramadan Tent Project, they welcomed guests of all faiths.

“Share the fast with us this Ramadan at Windsor Castle. Open to people of all faiths and non-faiths, join us for a tour of the majestic State Apartments, followed by a post-sunset meal in the castle grounds,” reads the website.

The website continues: “Your tour will begin with a self-guided tour of the magnificent State Apartments at Windsor Castle, where you can admire the extraordinary interiors and magnificent works of art on display.

“After sunset, once the castle is closed to the public, we will invite you to join us in the castle grounds for a very special Iftar meal.

“We are delighted to collaborate with the Ramadan Tent Project for this exciting event.”

After the event, Ramadan Tent Project founder Omar Salha took to X, formerly Twitter, to share photographs.

He wrote: “An unforgettable experience visiting the majestic Windsor Gardens followed by an #iftar showcasing heritage, tradition and unity. »

In one image, rows of guests were enjoying a meal together, with coconut water and dates on the tables.

In other snaps, Omar featured Windsor Castle before dusk and an image of a guard outside the royal residence.

Ramadan Tent Project is a charitable organization that works to unite communities and “spread the spirit of Ramadan through various initiatives,” according to its website.

It comes after Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle plunged into darkness on Friday for Earth Hour as the royal family continues public duties amid a series of health crises.

The Princess of Wales announced last week that she had cancer in an unprecedented video address shared on the royal family’s X account.

But the official feed returned once again to focus on the day-to-day work of the institution, urging members of the public to join royal monuments in turning off all non-essential lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday.

The initiative was organized by conservation charity World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to inspire action to save the planet.

It aims to highlight the impact humans have on the planet through climate change, pollution, plastic and food production.

King Charles, in particular, is known for his interest in environmental issues and is sure to support the event.

In a televised address the previous evening, Kate revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer after undergoing successful abdominal surgery in January.

The princess is now on what has been described as a “recovery path” after starting chemotherapy treatment in late February.

It was for this reason that William withdrew from a memorial service for his late godfather, King Constantine of Greece.

The future queen revealed that she and her husband were focusing on their children during this difficult time.

She said: “But, more importantly, it took us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that suited them and to reassure them that everything will be okay.

“As I told them; I am doing well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirit.

“Having William by my side is also a great source of comfort and comfort. As is the love, support and kindness that many of you have shown. It means so much to both of us.
