Sophie Rundle’s second bundle of joy? No, this ‘pregnancy’ is just for TV as she films a new drama with Matt Stokoe, the father of her real child
Could Sophie expect another ‘Rundle of joy’ two years after the arrival of her Easter baby? The Peaky Blinders actress was pictured on set with a big bump, but this time it’s a prosthetic for her latest character.
The 34-year-old stars in ITV mystery After The Flood, in which the discovery of a man’s body after a natural disaster isn’t all that it seems. And, in case life imitates art, her real-life partner Matt Stokoe, 34, stars as her husband.
An audience member who watched them on location in Glossop, Derbyshire said: ‘It’s a beautiful part of the world, but there was so much rain that they had to take a break from filming every now and then.
But that didn’t seem to stop the joy on set. Sophie and Matt had a great time interacting with each other as they waited to shoot their scenes. It was such a relaxed environment and everyone looked like they enjoyed working together.’
Sophie found fame as PC Kirsten McAskill in Happy Valley, but met an extremely gruesome end at the hands of psychopath Tommy Lee Royce.

She takes on another cop role in After The Flood as PC Jo Marshall, whom she describes as a “brilliantly bold and compelling protagonist.” Her character must find out what happened to the dead man and becomes “obsessed” with finding the truth.
Sophie and Matt, who met on the set of Sky One drama Jamestown, share a son, Henry, who turns two next week. Announcing his birth in 2021, she wrote, “Our little boy, who arrived safe and happy over Easter weekend and changed the game forever.”
Sophie returned to her role as Ada Thorne in Peaky Blinders just four weeks after giving birth, which she admitted was “really intense and absolutely mental.” But it was the last season and it felt very important to finish it.” She has since also reprized her role as Ann Walker in Gentleman Jack and as Laura Simmonds in the thriller The Diplomat.
Matt will star in ITV’s upcoming drama The Hunt For Raoul Moat, about the fugitive killer.
Sophie also says motherhood has toughened her up, adding, “I’m not intimidated by an older man in a position of power because I’m a mother to this little boy.” I much prefer who I am now.’
