Sophie Ellis Bextor’s son Sonny revealed why he moved in with his grandmother Janet Ellis in a new interview and provided sweet insight into their relationship.
Singer Sophie, 45, shares Sonny, 20, Kit, 15, Ray, 12, Jesse, eight, and Mickey, five, with husband Richard Jones, 43, bassist for The Feeling.
But last year Sonny moved out of his family home in west London to be with his grandmother and former Blue Peter presenter Janet, 68.
Now talking to The timesSonny explained the reasons for the move and sweetly said that he and Janet are now “closer than ever.”
He said: “I think there came a point, at home, where I needed more space.” Three of my brothers shared a room. The only time the house was quiet was when everyone was in bed.

Speaking to The Times, Sonny explained the reasons for the move and sweetly said that he and Janet are now “closer than ever” (seen together).
“So when I was finishing school, my grandmother asked me if I wanted to move there. I’ve been coming here my whole life, so it always felt like a second home anyway.”
He added that there are no rules in the house when living with her but that he does help her with the laundry and dishes, but explained that “nothing is forced.”
Sonny and Janet often eat together and Janet cooks for him, but “most of the time they do their own thing.”
About his future plans he said: ‘I’m not sure how long I’ll be here. If I moved, I would like it to be a nice place, and that would be expensive.
But I think if I left, I would miss the comforts of home. I would also miss my grandmother. “We have always been united, but now we are more united than ever.”
Janet told how happy she was for the company in the five-bedroom house that felt “empty” after her husband of 32 years, John, died of cancer in 2020.
Last year, Sophie said of last year’s deal: ‘My eldest son is now 19 and has just moved in with my mum, 10 minutes away, which is pretty healthy!’
Of his offspring, he added: “I have five children, but I don’t have five from the same person, some of them love music and others don’t.”
‘I still have one at home who never wants to come to any of my concerts. But most of them like music.
‘Five of anything is a lot. Fortunately, I love the chaos of the big family life. Things always happen. One is running, another has brought four friends.

Sometimes it is a good antidote to darkness. They never ask “how was the concert?” “They just tell me how their day was and I like that.”
Sophie previously opened up about life with her large brood while speaking on the Lockdown Parenting Hell podcast, saying: “If I hadn’t had five, I think I’d only have had one.” It was all or nothing.
“I think I’m very close to dying because of how exhausting it is.”
When asked if she plans to have more children, Sophie mused: “It’s complicated.” My youngest son is almost three years old. So I’m at that point where normally they would be someone else.
“But I’m 42, so it’s probably time to watch them grow up now.” Although it is difficult. Complicated. I’m not one of those people who can form the phrase, “I’m done.” I have never been able to form the sentence. It’s like my mouth turns… (silence).’
Speaking about how her husband feels about them having so many children, Sophie said: “He’s quite quiet… rich.” To be honest, I don’t think he instigated many of the latter. He just said… okay then.
‘When I was little I was an only child until I was 8 years old. Then my brother Jackson was born and I was absolutely obsessed with him and I think that’s what planted the seed.
‘He (Jackson) was a new beginning and that’s something that’s built into me. That babies are good.
Sophie and Janet are seen together in May 2023 and live not far from each other in leafy areas of west London.
