Sophie Ellis-Bextor paid tribute to her ‘funny, smart and solid’ stepfather after he died last week after a battle with stage four lung cancer.
The musician, 41, revealed that her stepfather John Leach’s death was ‘not unexpected but cruel’ and said the love he and her mother, former Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis, 64, ‘will last forever’ .
Sophie praised the couple’s “ inspiring marriage ” and revealed that she wrote her 2013 song Young Blood about them, posting a photo of TV producer John in his garden on her Instagram page on Thursday.

She wrote, “This is my stepfather, John. He’s been a big part of my life since I was a kid. I can’t believe it’s true, but he died last week.
“It was not unexpected, but it was cruel. Yet the love he and my mom created is everywhere in our family and it will last forever. Their marriage was truly inspiring – I even wrote Young Blood about it. ‘
The mother of five continued: ‘I am so lucky that I was brought up and raised by him.

“He really was the most beautiful person. Friendly, good, funny, smart, subtle, solid and clear. It will always be sad that he is not there, but I am grateful for everything he did for us and for so many happy memories.
