According to the images shared by Dutch publication WinFuture, the XM5 earbuds appear to be smaller and lighter than the XM4s. They are expected to have a touch-sensitive surface to control audio playback.

Sony WF-1000XM5 design (expected)
Unlike the matte finish of the XM4, the XM5 earbuds have a glossy plastic design. However, the leaked images suggest that touch sensor areas on each earbud will still have a matte finish.

Sony also seems to have made some changes to the charging case of their earbuds. They reduced the contact points from three to two and the case now has a rounder shape. The LED indicator has also changed from a bar to a small dot on the front.

Sony WF-1000XM5 specs (rumors)

The earbuds may have a larger battery capacity or charge faster as the power specification has been updated to 5V = 230mAh, compared to 5V = 140mAh on the WF-1000XM4.

The Sony WF-100XM5 would also come with multipoint support, which was also added to the previous model, the WF-1000XM4, after its release.

The earbuds may also support wireless charging and could offer up to 24 hours of battery life, though it’s unclear if this includes noise cancellation. In addition, the earbuds can provide an hour of listening time with just three minutes of charging.

There’s no word on when Sony will launch the WF-1000XM5, but from the leaks it seems the launch is imminent.
