Sony Music is in talks to acquire Queen’s hits for almost £1bn, which would mean it owns Bohemian Rhapsody, merchandising and exclusive rights to reproduce, distribute and perform the music.

Sony, along with another investor, are understood to value the songs at around £800m.

Queen, led by Freddie Mercury, had hits with songs like Don’t Stop Me Now and We Will Rock You.

If the raid goes through, it will add to the frenzy of music rights purchases.

Sir Rod Steward and Michael Jackson’s estate are said to have sold some or all of his music, worth hundreds of millions of pounds, this year.

Bruce Springsteen is believed to have sold his songs to Sony for more than £390 million, and Neil Young and David Bowie have struck deals with labels.
