It’s not the only bikie connection the Hollywood heartthrob has after finding fame as a biker gang boss in Sons of Anarchy.

The show ran from 2008 to 2014 and was responsible for putting Charlie on the Hollywood map and launching his amazing acting career.

He is currently in Australia filming the upcoming Apple TV series Shantaram, based on the novel of the same name.

It tells the story of a convicted bank robber and heroin addict who escapes prison and flees to India.

Shantaram is a 10-episode drama thriller that revolves around a man named Lin, played by Charlie.

The book was written by Gregory David Roberts, who also considers Malkoun a friend.

Shantaram is inspired by Roberts’ own life after he escaped from Pentridge Prison – the same prison featured in the novel – and fled to India.

While in prison, Roberts befriended Malkoun, calling him one of the ‘good guys’ in prison.

The series has been filmed in Melbourne’s Docklands studios and will also be filming in Thailand after the recent COVID outbreak in India forced production to change locations.
