Former football star and heavyweight boxer Sonny Bill Williams has launched an attack on undefeated boxing great Floyd Mayweather for his support of Israel in the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Mayweather, a former five-weight world champion, was one of the first big-name celebrities to publicly support Israel after Hamas attacked the country on October 7.
He arranged to fly a private plane full of supplies to Israel to help those in need and has continued to advocate against anti-Semitism ever since.
Earlier this week, Mayweather visited Israel and received two honors: the Champion of Israel award and the Lifesaver Award, for his continued support of the nation.
The boxer has been photographed with various organizations while in Israel and has been denounced by some who criticize Israel’s role in the conflict.
Sonny Bill Williams has criticized boxing great Floyd Mayweather for supporting Israel
Mayweather was one of the first international celebrities to publicly show his support for Israel following the Hamas attack on October 7, sending a plane with supplies to the country.
Williams, a devout Muslim who has openly expressed his support for Palestine, shared a video on social media of Mayweather posing with what appears to be IDF troops and unleashed a withering takedown of the American.
“Once on tour we stayed in the same hotel as Floyd and his crew,” Williams wrote in X on Thursday.
‘The football boys wanted a photo with him in the lobby. He walked past us with his entourage of 10 men and had 5 women with him.
‘The women who seemed more excited by the boys’ attention than their company. I kept my eyes on Floyd because he seemed very upset, not because the boys were asking for a photo but because his friends were paying attention to them, not him.
‘I remember thinking ‘how can such a revered man seem so insecure?’ -after watching this video it is clear, a man without guts is not a man, he is a coward, he keeps dancing while children die.’
In January, the NRL condemned Williams’ comments about the war in Gaza in a letter to a major Jewish organization after the former Roosters and Bulldogs star was accused of inciting hate.
The accusation was leveled at Williams when he described Israel supporters as “Zionist cowards” in a social media post last November, and he was also criticized for claiming that Israelis taken hostage by Hamas in the October 7 attack They were treated well.
Williams, who converted to Islam in 2009, was also criticized by radio host Ray Hadley after he liked a comment on social media calling Hamas terrorists “freedom fighters.”

The former All Black had shared a post by American law professor, author and controversial columnist Khaled Beydoun that said: ‘So, Ukrainian civilians defending their families are ‘freedom fighters’… But the Palestinians in Gaza who do EXACTLY the same thing are ‘terrorists’? ‘
Williams reposted the comment with the 100 emoji to emphasize her approval and the palm-up emoji to represent the sentence.
Hadley called the comments a “disgrace.”
Mayweather has also been outspoken on social media about his opinions on the conflict.
He posted: ‘I stand with Israel against the Hamas terrorists. Hamas does not represent the people of Palestine but is a terrorist group that is attacking innocent lives!
‘I represent all human beings and wish for the safe return of all Americans and Israelis and any human beings who were held hostage during these horrible war crimes.
‘This is not the time for politics. This is a time for safety first.
‘God bless America. God bless Israel. God bless humanity!’
Along with the post, he included a photograph of himself from a previous visit to Jerusalem.
