reddit user u/One-Poetry9190 opened up about the alleged family drama on the popular ‘Am I the A**hole’ subreddit this week, in which he claimed his father died of a heart attack while having sex with his pregnant mistress.
The son, who seemed to find some humor in the situation, asked in the title of his post if he was unsuccessful for not changing his father’s “seriously offensive tombstone.”
Family drama: A man revealed on Reddit that his mother carved ‘adulterer’ on his adulterous father’s gravestone after he died having sex with his pregnant mistress
Yikes: He explained that his father’s family and mistress pressured him to pay to have the tombstone changed. In a comment, he noted that his mother had inherited her husband’s estate
“My father and mother had a very bitter marriage towards the end of his life; he had a long-term affair with another married colleague and got her pregnant before he died,” he explained.
According to the Reddit user, his father planned to leave his mother and the country to start a new life with his mistress in Canada, where they had selected a house.
“He had moved and was living with his colleague when he suddenly died of a heart attack while having sex,” he said. “No divorce papers have ever been filed, no legal separation. They were busy moving all the legal stuff. But on paper they were still happily married.’
He noted that he and his siblings have all moved out of their family home, and says the youngest is 19 and in college.
While working for a technology company, he is now back in his hometown helping his mother manage his father’s estate hence his involvement in the situation.
“My mother was hurt and petty and marked his gravestone as ‘In loving memory of John Doe, son, husband, father and adulterer,’” he explained. “My father’s family and his pregnant partner are angry and want me to solve it.
‘We all applaud her’: the majority of commentators agreed that this was not his problem to deal with, and there were also a number of fans who praised his mother
“Personally, I’m fine with that, that’s who he was,” he added. “He was all those things. And since it’s my mother’s plot, there’s nothing I can do.’
The man later noted in the comments that his father’s pregnant mistress “could explode any day,” but his mother has no intention of giving her any money.
“My mother hired a lawyer and since my father passed away without a will, everything goes to my mother under our state laws,” he said. “Mommy doesn’t leave anything as an extra. She’ll leave it for us once she’s dead.’
The majority of commenters agreed that this was not his problem to deal with, and there were also some fans who praised his mother for berating her unfaithful husband for eternity.
“I’d DIE (no pun intended) if I walked through a graveyard and saw that! Your mother is an icon,” one wrote. ‘NTA. I hope she burns his old shirts or something.’
“Yes, NTA, but your mother is a stone cold legend and my new hero. This is a level of hilarious pettiness that I can only aspire to,” agrees someone else. “And since most of this thread seems to agree with her, let her know we all applaud her.”
Another suggested, ‘If they are so offended by the accurate description, then perhaps they should go and buy a park bench in a park and dedicate it to him as they wish to dedicate it to him and go there to ‘visit’ him. ..so this isn’t your problem at all.’
