A woman’s paragliding flight to conquer her fears ended in tragedy when she slipped from her seat mid-flight and fell to her death in a Colombian forest.

Daniela Barrios, 27, uploaded a photo to her social media account before the deadly flight and informed friends and family that she was finally ready to overcome her phobia of flying.

Barrios and the pilot took off on Saturday afternoon from the El Castillo mountain, in the municipality of Quidío, in Calarcá, and during the flight they fell from their seats while flying over the Pradera Alta trail, according to the firefighters of Calarcá.

“Apparently the young woman slipped from the seat where the co-pilot is sitting,” said the commander of the Calarcá fire brigade, Captain Javier Arconde, quoted by the newspaper El Tiempo.

“The pilot had to follow her route because he had no way of stopping, he managed to land well but she fell.”

Barrios, owner of a lingerie line, leaves behind a seven-year-old son.

Arconde said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
