SNL Mocks Trump Dueling, Biden City Halls By Channel Surfing Through Cold Open Air Event Highlights

SNL took on the dueling Town Hall rallies of President Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden earlier this week during the cold open Saturday, once again zooming in on real-life viral moments.

The cold opening was set up as if viewers were surfing between the two programs.

During the recreated Trump Town Hall, the president, played by Alec Baldwin, went face to face with Kate McKinnon’s Savannah Guthrie and avoided her direct questions about when he was last tested negative for coronavirus and any symptoms he might have. to experience.

McKinnon Guthrie’s suffering eventually gives up the questions and says, “ Okay, I’m done with my first prostate exam, ” then answers a question from the voters.

When McKinnon returns later in the sketch, it’s as she and Baldwin’s Trump circle each other onstage during ‘WrestleMania 37.’

Trump City Hall also poked fun at two of the more viral moments to come from his TV days.

The first was real voter Paulette Dale, who told Trump he was handsome when he smiled during the actual meeting, before asking her question.

On SNL, Dale, played by Chloe Fineman, told Baldwin’s Trump that he looked ‘handsome’ when he smiled, then kept pushing to see his’ chompers’ while Baldwin grimaced and finally smiled when she said ‘it’s so beautiful’.

However, the smile faded as soon as Fineman’s Dale started questioning him about his immigration stance and his plans for ‘dreamers’.

Later in the Trump segment, SNL presented its version of ‘Nodding Lady’.

In the background of the cold open air, a black woman – played by Ego Nwodm – in a white outfit with a red face mask, nodded. After a few moments she began to dance in her chair before getting up and twerking.

Maya Rudolph then returned to the show, made a cameo as Senator Kamala Harris, and interrupted Trump’s wanderings by asking, ‘What the hell was wrong with that woman then? I only nod as often as a waiter asks if I’m eating mimosas for brunch. ‘

Rudolph then goes on to say, “Either that’s Candace Owens in a wig or the baby girl answered the wrong Craigslist ad” and “If you’re not a plant, I’m very concerned about you.”

During the actual debate, a black woman – since identified as immigration attorney Mayra Joli – wore a similar ensemble and captured the heart of social media with her emphatic nods and thumbs as Trump spoke.

SNL also targeted Biden’s town hall and joked about the meandering answers it gave to voters’ questions.

Jim Carrey once again returned to guest star as Biden, first seen with statements like ‘you can make a difference, you can save this country’ in the air.

After a few moments of wandering, moderator George Stephanopoulos, played by Mikey Day, asked, “Who are you talking to?”

To which Carrey’s Biden said, “I’m talking to God, George.”

SNL later compared Biden to Mr. Rogers, with Carrey singing “ Won’t you be my neighbor ” while donning a red sweater, then answering a question wearing a curly blonde wig and painting cheerful trees, like Bob Ross.

The cold opening ended with Biden and Trump making their final comments.

Carrey’s Biden promised he wouldn’t tweet ‘because I don’t know how’ and said he’d only have one scandal: ‘I’ll take Angela Merkle from behind for my wife and tell her she has a rocking caboose. There is no harm in that! ‘

Baldwin’s Trump, meanwhile, told viewers, “Ask yourself, America, aren’t you better off than you were four years ago?”

Then a map of America called “No!” Shouted, said Baldwin, “Okay, then try to get me alive!”

Additional highlights from the SNL episode, which was hosted by Issa Rae, included a few Weekend Update gags.

In the former, host Michael Che made a shout about Trump’s town hall meeting that aired on NBC, noting that the network had “ a type, ” as photos of Bill Cosby, Matt Lauer and Trump flashed on the screen. All three men had been charged with sexual misconduct in recent years.

The second part involved cast members playing Donald Trump Jr. (Day), Eric Trump (Alex Moffat) and Tiffany Trump (Fineman) played as they talked about the power of their father’s presidential campaign.

Don Jr. had to argue with Eric, who blurted out incorrect — and unflattering — answers about their father, while also discovering how much alcohol was in hand sanitizer by squirting it into his mouth. Tiffany, meanwhile, noted that her father strictly enforced social distance around her.

Ultimately, Don Jr. that he could not ‘handle’ his brothers and sisters at the same time.
