SNL casts Jenna Ortega as exactly the X-Men member you’d expect

Date:

Jenna Ortega has starred in some dark and twisty movies over the years: She toured slashers with XThe nanny: Killer Queen, Scream 5, And Scream 6then there’s the second season of it on TV youAnd Naturally the Netflix hit Wednesday, where her dance scene went viral. So it makes sense that when she was on Saturday Night Live on March 11 they wouldn’t make sketches of that.

Instead, they added to her roster of roles as anxious teens doing their best: Rogue from the X-Men.

Technically in the SNL sketch she’s not playing Rogue – she’s Zena Nutrino, a psychic and student at ‘Professor Zander’s Academy for Extraordinary Children’ who is upset that she’s not with the team doing really important things. Instead, she’s stuck with the ‘School vs. School’ quiz pitting against the extraordinarily normal West Grove High students.

It’s not a fair fight – West Grove has no superpowers and Zena thinks the Shakespeare quote “to be or not to be” comes from the character “Toby.” But unfortunately, Professor Chandliss Zander tells her to play because she can’t control her powers yet. While that may sound more like the Dark Phoenix, the prominent white stripe and green and yellow ensemble (a la Jim Lee’s relaunch look) comes straight from Rogue’s wardrobe. The general contempt for humans? That’s all Ortega.

But rejoice, Wednesday fans! If you want a glimpse of Ortega revisiting the Wednesday dance, the guys from Please Don’t Destroy got her to do it one more (last?) time.
