Defiant: Smith & Nephew chairman Rupert Soames insisted medtech group has ‘well-formed’ strategy
The president of Smith & Nephew defended his strategy in the face of intensifying pressure from major investors calling for a dissolution of the company.
Rupert Soames’ position comes after The Mail on Sunday revealed that shareholders of the medical technology group have put chief executive Deepak Nath on notice to improve his fortunes or be ousted.
Smith & Nephew is made up of three divisions: sports medicine, wound care and orthopedics, which makes knee and hip replacements and is believed to be ready for a spinoff.
But Soames told the Financial Times yesterday: “We have a well-formed strategy and a plan that we are diligently executing; it spans all three of our business lines.”
