Slow motion footage of Jeremy Doku’s high tackle on Alexis Mac Allister has emerged online, with Liverpool fans furious at the result.
It came after the Belgian winger avoided conceding a late penalty following a chest-high tackle on Alexis Mac Allister, with VAR deeming his tackle was “played in a reasonable position”.
Eight minutes into added time, the tackle sparked protests from the Reds who wanted their second penalty of the game. Pundits were also wary of whether the City winger would end up in trouble.
However, following a VAR review, it was ruled that the tackle was not enough to overturn the on-field referee’s decision.
New online footage appears to show the ball coming off Mac Allister first before Doku caught the Liverpool man.

Fans were quick to share their thoughts on the incident, with Liverpool fans furious over the denied penalty.
“You can literally see the ball bounce off Mac Allister’s chest, it stops spinning and the only thing Doku catches is his Mac Allister.” wrote one user on X, formerly Twitter.
“I didn’t even get the ball.” another wrote.
‘The speed with which the VAR passed a control is very revealing. “Stuart Atwell didn’t want to embarrass Oliver,” added a third.
“It’s hilarious watching people say ‘HE TOUCHED THE BALL FIRST’ as if players are allowed to put their cleats on someone’s chest,” another posted.
“In the other box, Manchester City receive a penalty and Liverpool receive a red,” wrote one end user.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp shared his opinion after the match: “This situation in all positions on the field is 100 percent a foul and it is a yellow card.
‘(Doku) hit the ball but he could only hit it because his foot was right there. If the ball isn’t there, kill him!’ He continued.
‘It’s as easy as that. You’ll find people: do you employ Mike Dean, does he work for Sky? Congratulations, by the way, it’s a great appointment: he will find something. “It’s a penalty for all the footballers on the planet.”
