Former Fox Sports pundit Skip Bayless went on a rant after the Cowboys hired a new coach

Former Fox Sports analyst and pundit Skip Bayless was beside himself in the aftermath of his favorite football team’s selection for a new head coaching hire.

Bayless, who has been named in a lawsuit by a former Fox stylist who claims he offered her millions to have sex with him, was angry that his beloved Dallas Cowboys decided to hire internally.

Instead of choosing one of the outside candidates the Cowboys had been linked to — such as Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore or University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders — team owner Jerry Jones decided to promote offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to the top position .

After the decision was made, Bayless offered a 15-minute response (seemingly in the middle of his workout), which nullified the hire.

Bayless said his family was waiting for him for dinner, and then “the news broke and it broke me in half. And I just said, “I gotta get it off my chest, I gotta let it go.”

“My worst nightmare is now my Dallas Cowboy reality. I don’t know how much more I can handle. Mike McCarthy’s best friend just replaced him as the next Mike McCarthy – ‘head coach’ of my Dallas Cowboys; Translation: next in line to become Jerry Jones’ puppet is Brian Schottenheimer.

‘I was shot in the heart, I was shot in the stomach. I was shot by Schotty… If you had told me this a week ago, I would have laughed at you.’

Bayless continued to shout for a few minutes, complaining about the decision to elevate a coach who initially joined the team as an analyst because he was “out of a job.”

The 73-year-old then discussed the possible candidates the Cowboys could have had both this offseason (Brian Flores, Pete Carroll, Ben Johnson (hired by Chicago), Aaron Glenn (hired by the Jets) and Kellen Moore) and in previous seasons. seasons (Washington’s Dan Quinn, Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh).

After discussing people Dallas didn’t pick, he then turned his ire on the Cowboys’ notoriously controlling owner.

‘We’re stuck with Jerry Jones. Stuck in… Jerry’s going to try to sell him – mark my words, I’ve told you this from the beginning – he’s going to try to sell him as a chip off a great block, old Marty Schottenheimer, highly respected coach.

“Yes, he was very respected, but he was just a very good coach, he was not a great coach. What was Marty known for? Not winning the big one. Oh, that should make his son the perfect head coach for the Dallas Cowboys.”

Indeed, Marty Schottenheimer was known for producing great teams that didn’t win in the playoffs. He made the postseason in 13 of his 21 seasons as coach of the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers – but never advanced beyond the championship game phase of the playoffs.

Bayless kept harping on, “Brian Schottenheimer? He has been coaching in the National Football League for 28 years. 28 years! And he’s changed jobs thirteen times. What does that say about Brian Schottenheimer? Why would you have to change jobs 13 times if you’re that guy – if you’re destined to be coach of the Dallas Cowboys?’

He continued: “He has never been a head coach because he has never been offered a head coaching job in 28 years. He’s 51 years old and no one in the National Football League has offered him a head coaching job yet. Why, why, why, why, why?’

Schottenheimer has been coaching for 28 years, but not all of it has been in the NFL.

He started as an assistant with the St. Louis Rams before joining his father’s staff in his final season with the Chiefs.

After stints as wide receivers coach at Syracuse and tight ends coach at USC, Brian reunited with his father as quarterbacks coach of the Redskins. After that one season, he moved to San Diego with Marty, keeping the same job title.

Brian got his first major coaching gig as the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets from 2006-2011. During that time, he coached the offense through back-to-back AFC Championship games.

He then jumped back to St. Louis and was the Rams’ offensive coordinator for three seasons, never once making the playoffs.

After one season as OC at the University of Georgia, Schottenheimer returned to the NFL to spend two seasons as quarterbacks coach with the Indianapolis Colts.

He then spent three seasons as offensive coordinator under Carroll with the Seattle Seahawks, making the playoffs all three years but never advancing past the divisional round.

A unique 2021 season as the passing game coordinator with the Jacksonville Jaguars led to his current team, Dallas. After a season as an analyst, Schottenheimer was promoted yesterday to offensive coordinator and then to head coach.

In his first season as offensive coordinator in Dallas, the Cowboys ranked top five in total offense, top three in passing offense and the number one scoring offense in the league. Nevertheless, Dallas fell at home to the seven seed Green Bay Packers.

This season, the Cowboys have been hampered by injuries — especially to quarterback Dak Prescott — and have failed to acquire the right offensive weapons to succeed.

Now Dallas faces an uncertain season as the team must once again prepare for their first season under Schottenheimer.
