NIGHT CARE DIARY

Every night I think about what’s going on in my head and write down my concerns as a series of bullet points, then think about when I can address them. If I have no control over an issue, I put a red cross through that item. It helps to allay worries before going to sleep. It’s less of a magazine, more of a landfill. I started this 20 years ago during a stressful divorce.

MENOPAUSE SMOOTHIES

I had a radical hysterectomy six years ago and was plunged into menopause overnight. I didn’t want HRT. Instead, I started eating plants rich in phytoestrogens, such as wild yams, to boost my estrogen levels. Plus, I make a magical menopausal Nutribullet smoothie, with chia seeds, spinach, and yellow maca. It improves my energy level and mood. Menopause should be celebrated as a new chapter.

TECH-free Meditation

To me, a meditation app is an oxymoron because our phones use blue light, which affects our serotonin (the happiness hormone). Mindfulness for me is closing and being in the moment. I make visualizations of happy memories from the past or beautiful landscapes. And I like to walk barefoot on the grass. Swimming in the sea also helps to clear my head.

SPINAL RESET

Once every two weeks I have therapy for my spine at The Spinal Health Clinic. They work on the fascia that runs along the spine — the connective tissue — to reset the body. A healthy spine has a knock-on effect on the entire body.

NO HUMIDIFIER

After my divorce in my 30s, I started my own skin care line. I haven’t used a moisturizer in 15 years because I feel they can get clogged. Instead, I use ingredients that are moisturizing, such as hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, oat milk, or shea butter.
