At least six were killed when an avalanche in the Italian Alps sent chunks of a melting glacier to a group of tourists.

Ten people were also injured in the accident in Punta Rocca on the Dolomite peak Marmolada, in northeastern Italy.

All hikers are being chased from the mountain as officials confirm the risk of further collapses.

According to Alpine Rescue, about 15 people have been affected by the falling ice.

On Saturday, the mountain registered a record temperature of ten degrees.
